Truth – a steampunk coffee shop in South Africa

Remember the hype around steampunk?

This coffee shop in South Africa, called Truth, shows that it isn’t just a fad, but a classic, cool design concept too.

Haldane Martin came up with the idea after seeing how espresso machines and coffee roasters had a similar ‘Victorian futuristic fantasy style’ to steampunk. Plus, there’s the whole steam connection (haha).

The coffee making equipment looks amazing with pipes and bits and contraptions all over the place. There are also luxurious looking booths and saw-blade tabletops, vintage typewriters, Singer sewing machines and old candlestick telephones. The toilets have exposed copper pipes, old extending mirrors and Victorian tap levers. Clevs. Makes me want to go to SA.

Best coffee shops in the world? I’d happily volunteer to go and explore.
