It’s all about Indian influences in music at the moment.
Indian sounds and entertainment are inspiring Western artists everywhere you look and listen. Somehow, it’s all coming together quite tightly and organically in this hot spell we’re having.
Naughty Boy‘s number 1 ‘La La La‘ (feat. Sam Smith) kicked it all off with that infectious (or annoying, to some people) ‘La la la’ bit:
>>Would be good to see more Native American(/’Indian’) influences in popular culture. Definitely one that should be explored in everything from sounds, visual stuff, clothes, etc.
Then Abi Sampa (or Abi Sampaaaa-aaa-aaaahhh-aaa-aa-aaah) did this on The Voice:
The BBC went big on ‘Bollywood’ with the very interesting Bollywood Carmen Live on BBC3. Props for the creativity and braveness.
And now we have Selena Gomez tapping the tabla on Come & Get It (video starts off very promising – check out the bit from 00:39 – 00:47 – but then goes a bit wrong). Not keen on the song, but loving the soft Indian vocals and tabla.
And finally, Iggy Azalea, that cray chick, made this Bollywood-style video for her new single ‘Bounce’. Funny, mental, cool. Really effin’ cool.
Weirdly, it doesn’t seem like bandwagon jumping, but genuinely like everyone is embracing Indian influences and it just happens to be at the same time.
