Baking trends 2013: doughnuts and eclairs turn their swag on

I’ve seen a few baking trends lists popping up recently and two things keep coming up as ones to watch in 2013.

Doughnuts

There were some mentions last year, but nothing seems to have happened as yet. Is 2013 the year for gourmet doughnuts? Apparently, some restaurants are serving flavours like chicken liver, so don’t just stick to sweet flavours.

An American trend that needs to come over here soon is choosing your filling and having it injected while you wait.

Also, Krispy Kreme is doing Red Velvet Cake Doughnuts (thanks to Zee for the heads up).

(Remember this post about churros con chocolate?)

Eclairs

Fresh trend from Paris.

Like cupcakes, this is quite a girly one, but the traditional eclair is getting colourful, smaller,  bigger, fancier, “elegant” and generally just better looking.

Fauchon is the posh Parisian place to go to.
