Ones to watch: designers and performers

Today’s Independent on Sunday has a DPS on “the best young designers and performers”, eight contenders for the Nova prize – £6,000 awarded to the hottest young talent “from the fields of fine art, industrial design and fashion”.

Here’s the article: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/hurrah-for-the-young-turks-6265081.html

And here are a couple that caught my eye:

Jan Rose, 27, The Knitting Craftsmen (MA Industrial Design)

His project taps into the “boom in amateur craft-making” and features an “urban pouf” made out of stainless steel. Looks like a Brillo pad, but quite clever.

(see my post on knitted furniture from January)

Isak Akerlund, 28, The Art of Darkness (Postgraduate Diploma, Character Animation)

Just because the black and white tiger looks cool.

His project is a three-minute film “about the culture clash between the urban jungle and the real jungle”.
