Alot of people have already heard of/tried rooibos tea (or redbush tea – which is quite mainstream), so nothing really that new, but there’s been a bit of buzz around it in America recently. As food trends in this country often come from the US, I thought it might be worth watching to see if there’s a second wave in the UK, under the native ‘rooibos’ name.
Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free tea, only grown in South Africa. It is said to be a potent antioxidant, so likely to be given ‘superfood’ status in any upcoming hype.
And it’s pronounced ‘ROY-bos‘ – the Afrikaans word for ‘red bush’.
