According to the Daily Telegraph, a new trend from America is about to hit Britain: mini gardens encased in glass. The NYT said they were making a comeback all the way back in June 2010, but, with a new book, Terrarium Craft, out in May, they could become popular over here.
Apprently, terrariums are massively popular across the pond, with people creating little pieces of horticultural heaven for offices and homes. Everyone has indoor plants and window boxes have been quite popular recently, so it will be interesting to see if this one takes off.
You can use pretty much any type of glass ‘vessel’ (anything from a light bulb to a fish tank) to grow all sorts of plants/green stuff and the condensation that builds up means that you don’t have to water it very much. It could be a single plant, or a full mini garden with ornaments and everything.
Really nice idea and it offers a way of having a bit of greenery even if you don’t have a garden.
